Would the world be better if everyone was selfish or selfless? I mean, you can gain happiness from both. You can be sad from both. You can even be successful or a failure from both. It’s certainly a give or take. Get it?
Most would side with the, “the world would be a better place if everyone was selfless”. However, if that was the case, we wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t take any actions to benefit ourselves. All we would do is benefit others. At that rate, would emotion even exist? If being selfless was the norm, would we experience the feeling of giving money to a homeless man in today’s world? Or would everyone be miserable, and being selfish was the new selfless of our world.
On the other hand, many people describe today’s world as a world full of selfishness. Apparently, everyone here is selfish. In most cases, this is certainly true. We moved past our parents and decide that we want to make our own decisions. We choose the jobs that we want to take and get married to the people we want to marry. Additionally, if you act selflessly in a word like today, we would gain a extra boost of happiness and pride. So does that mean being selfish leads to happiness?
It’s a debatable topic, however I personally believe that the world is in the best state when everyone is selfish. In order to be selfless, you have to be selfish. You still help others with the intentions of benefiting yourself, while assisting others. You can still be that child that begs for the video game console that makes them happy. You can aspire for high goals.
So what are you? Would you rather live in a life where you just take and not give back? The majority of the world today is selfish since it is absolutely needed for us to survive and thrive. Or would you rather live in a world of giving? Which could be possible, but too impossible for us to imagine in our lives. Are you team selfless or selfish?
